Τraining - Skills

The great transformations – the 4th Industrial Revolution, energy crises, the intensity of global competition – all influenced dramatically the world of work, its future, and the demand for skills, education and training.

The source of concern

Employee skills, along with their respective policies, the role and importance of continued professional development and the wider public dialogue concerning the incommensurability between supply and demand in the labour market and/or the overspecialization of employees, have raised increasing concerns within governments, organizations and a plethora of international and European agencies. The concerns correspond to the assumption that skills development is followed by many benefits for the employees themselves and the economy. After all, what do we refer to, when mentioning skills, that renders them so useful and indispensable? In essence, we refer to the relation that is fostered by the education and training systems of employment, the labour market, the economy and the system of production. We also refer to the ways that individuals and various social groups develop their interests and “profits” and define themselves in terms of their work “identity”.

How GSEVEE mediates

GSEVEE understands the importance of training, particularly as it relates to the concept of continuing professional development. GSEVEE focuses on employees in the small scale enterprises’ sector as well as their employers and the self-employed and their contribution to sustainable economic growth and social welfare. In this context, GSEVEE develops policy suggestions based on an evidence-based approach in the field and seeks to participate efficiently in the public debate at the national and European level. GSEVEE’s basic aim of concern focuses on the following axes

Training

Planning and implementation of training programmes for the green economy and digital technology sectors, which aim to improve the skills of those working for small scale enterprises by developing and implementing innovative educational methodologies. The goal is to provide and safeguard qualitative training in all its forms (synchronous/asynchronous, in person/digital).

Economic and social environment

Systematic study of the economic and social environment of the country, within which the educational system functions (including vocational education and training) for their better understanding and improvement, aiming at forming substantiated policy suggestions.

Skills

Detailed study of sectors and professions in order to comprehend the impact of economic and social transformations, anticipate changes and tendencies and establish positions for the development of employees’ skills so that the latter would be able to meet contemporary demands. In parallel, the promotion of synergies and implementation of joint actions along with institutional and social partners and state representatives in order to further dialogue in the field of continuing professional development and training. The systematic monitoring of European policies through the generation of studies and participation in European fora focusing on skills constitutes the main point of attention.

Workplace training

Support of small scale enterprises and the self-employed in fostering their role and participation in the development of workplace training. Workplace training constitutes an important means for long-term enterprise development, as it softens the tension between skills acquired in the field of education and the skills required by the labour market.
